Gregory Appleby is a self-taught artist and jeweler whose work draws inspiration from a lifetime of varied influences and travels. Born in Van Nuys, CA, to an artistic mother and an entrepreneurial father, he developed a fascination with animals and craftsmanship at an early age. His experiences in Nebraska, service in the U.S. Marine Corps, and travels through the Far East and Africa further enriched his aesthetic, inspiring him to capture the beauty of wildlife in precious metals and stones. With formal training in pavé diamond setting from the Gemological Institute of America and a commitment to the time-honored lost wax casting method, Gregory continues to create detailed and lifelike animal miniatures and custom designs. Now based in Hawaii, he finds endless motivation in Maui’s peaceful beauty, channeling what he describes as a power beyond himself to bring his intricate, heirloom-quality jewelry pieces to life.
